Description:

This program is offered primarily online, however, during the first semester, students will attend a hands-on skills demonstration and simulation weekend on campus. During those three eight-hour sessions, students will navigate different acute care stations and scenarios with access to critical care materials to practice and demonstrate competencies in caring for acute care patients. Students must receive a certification of successful completion of the three days in person skill demonstration and simulation in order to pass the related course and move forward in the program.

The Adult Gerontology Acute Care Post-Master Certification curriculum seeks to develop graduated qualified advanced nurse practitioners who are well prepared to successfully work in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner settings and provide high-quality care according to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Standards for this specialty. The Adult Gerontology Acute Care Post-Master certificate curriculum, design, and development, aligns with the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Consensus Model and meets the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) criteria for APRN certification programs exam requirements.

    Applicants wishing to be considered for admission to the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Post-Master program must:

    • Hold an earned Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited institution recognized by the United States Department of Education or a foreign master’s degree evaluated by an approved agency indicating equivalency to a Master of Science Degree in
    • Nursing earned at an accredited institution in the U.S. (official university transcript or evaluation must be received before the end of the first term)
    • Be eligible to meet externship/preceptorship requirements.
    • Have a current ACLS and BLS certification.
    • Provide proof of liability insurance as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care student prior to the first clinical
    • Have an active Registered Nurse license.
    • Provide 3 reference letters (2 professional)
    • Provide current resume
    • Interview with Program Coordinator or Dean
    • Reside in Florida or a SARA member state for the duration of the program*
    • Complete a gap analysis for degree plan evaluation if applicable.
    • Successful completion of the Ethics, Information Literacy and Professional Writing Seminar along with attending and completing the programmatic orientation
    • Have completed the following courses at an institution that satisfies requirement 1, above, and the university’s transfer credit policies, prior to enrollment in the program:
    1. Advanced pathophysiology
    2. Advanced pharmacology
    3. Advanced health/physical assessment
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration)
    Additional Admission Requirements:
    • Work Experience

    Acute care experience preferred.
